in the summer of 2016 hove went to france for two weeks to start writing and recording his new ep portes du soleil. together with his girlfriend they spent two weeks at le pascalet, a house in the woods of the cevennes, right outside the small village of st. etienne vallee franç,,,aise. equipped with a sampler, a drum-machine,some synths, effect pedals and a mic for feld- recordings, he built the foundation of the 4 songs that would later become the ep portes du soleil. all the songs started out as live-jams. the goal was to create different moods and patterns inspired by the surroundings of the forest, long walks, playing petanque and plenty of pastis. the tracks were later fnalized back home at hoves studio in zurich. musically portes du soleil feels like the natural follow up to his debut ep journey to arendal. hoves tracks are wavering between sozzled grooves and warm, woozy atmospheres. field- recordings from their daily routine in and around the house were either used to enrich the ambiance, or as in calme infni, they were transformed into a whole song. even though portes du soleil was written during the summer, the record is not bound to any season it is simply an excerpt of hoves life in 2016.

a year after his last outing on the label, metamethod is back with a second ep for nightime drama. the man born simon haynes is a veteran of the scene who has worked under many different aliases and is now back at the techno frontline, creating the same sort of powerful grooves that made him so essential back in the 90s. ‘exoshift’ opens things up with a lurching, low sung beat that rocks back and forth as frazzled synths and rusty frequencies skate about up top. it’s body music that really makes a mark while ‘autofac’ then slips into more of a forward moving groove with prickly percussion and woodpecker hits all driving along a bleak techno landscape. last of all, ‘superlifter’ marries bulky, broken sounding drums with celestial pads that glow white amongst the murk and greyness of the rest for he track. it is atmospheric, grainy techno for serious heads only.

this release - a collaboration between ali x (alphonse from azari & iii) and mexicos theus mago - turns the heat up all the way to on and just leaves it there. the lyrical content of the title track would lead many to use descriptors like sexy, sleazy, and steamy like you wouldnt even believe, and while the music also bears that out its important to remember not to stigmatize something that almost everyone does at least a couple of times a week. vision, meanwhile, offers the perfect b-side accompaniment, a sci-fi techno workout where you dont even have to think about sex if you dont want to. the ep features dub versions of both tracks for more stripped-down club sets aimed at people who understandably have problems with the sound of the human voice. it also includes a remix by curses, whom we recently bumped into (he says cornered) in berlin and asked if hed provide one of his trademark eerie downtempo excursions. long story short: he said yes.

tunnel signs is the nom de plume of australian born lover, fighter and romantic, ash moses. with a taste for playing and producing records that embrace the darkness, moses parts the sea and finds the wonky middle ground between reverb drenched postpunk, hypnotic techno and spaced out disco. having previously seen releases on labels such as nein, clouded vision and hakt he now finds a home with cutters records with this 12inch with will buck. the release, titled spirits came into existence when ash relocated to new york city, a place he had long dreamed of from afar. as luck would have it he found himself sharing an apartment with another likeminded electronic musician named will buck who became his studio-partner and eventual collaborator. having bonded over a shared love of synthesizers, drum machines and all things rhythm they soon began their own freeform jam sessions which paved the way for this 12inch release. spirits shares some of the slow hypnotic swagger and dark disco drone of red axes and multi culti but with a futuristic percussive palette of the likes of four tet. the heady modulated elastic synth sounds give way to deep undulating bass patterns and tribal percussion. on the flip, the lights get turned out and the acid turned up with an ominous techno rework courtesy of hivern discs own marc pino
